We arrived, a friend and I, in Bergen last friday in the evening, after almost one week of travel  throught Germany and Danemark.  Here my trip report. You can access the concerned albums by clicking on the pics.

Saturday 21th: Paris > Solingen (Ger). Evening-hike in Solingen.

Solingen

Sunday 22th: Solingen > Laboe (Near Kiel, Germany). Visit of the Laboe Memorial.

Laboe

Monday 23th: Laboe > Jelling. We first stopped at Heikendorf near Laboe to see another memorial. Then we visited Kolding, Vejle and Jelling in Denmark.

Tuesday 24th: Jelling > Vigsø (near Hanstholm). I used only little roads. We stopped at the old Viking settlement, Fyrkat, near Hobro. Then we visited the old Viking graveyard called Lindholm Høje in Aalborg. Then we stopped at Aggersund to visit another Viking fortress, Aggersborg. We finally arrived in Vigsø where a complete battery of the Atlantic Wall is bathing into the North Sea.

Wednesday 25th: We stayed in Vigsø/Hansholm to visit a big fortress from WWII, again. This was the biggest European fortress at this time.

Hanstholm

Thursday 26th: We  visited another battery  south to Hanstholm and waited for our ferry which was 4 hours late... he left Denmark at 4 AM the day after. Because of an engine problem we landed at Haugesund and drove until Bergen. We arrived at Fantoft, one of the Bergen student Hostels, friday 27th in the evening.

Thanks to the good Pierre (take a look to his blog Camembert in my links) we had somewhere to sleep: he hid is key in a secret place for us. Thanks to him again...

I forgot to say that  the article "Bergen"  on  the French wikipedia has been  voted  "Featured article" on  May 4th. As I  am the author for around  95% of it, I'm very happy because I spent many many hours working on that stuff  ;-). My wiki nick is Saty.

bk-logo2.gif

I also created  most of the Bergen-linked  articles, for  example  Constructions  défensives de Bergen and related articles, Opération Caesar, the De syv fjell related articles (with Fikk from wikipedia) and  the Bergensk culture related articles...

Men...
Tenk om Hansa Bryggeri gikk tomt for øl, du.
Tenk kor tørr vår fest og hverdag ville bli.
Nei, du Hansa-stad blandt fjeller,
Norges beste øl du selger.
SKÅL for Bergen og for HANSA BRYGGERI !!

The last  obstacle to my stay in Bergen just blew up : I  have just been told that my second semester is validated.  The average mark of all my exams is 12.2/20 which  is  "assez bien"  = "quite good".

I recieved my Letter of Acceptance from UiB this morning, so as you may think I was pretty happy!

HPIM1375.JPG

Nothing very important to say about it, it is just a confirmation that I'm allowed to study at UiB during two semesters and that my courses have been accepted. Below is the stuff i recieved this morning. Strange thing, it seems that it has been posted from Germany (wtf???). Now, I've just to wait! Many things to do however, set winter tires on my car, cancel my phone and bus paiments, check financial stuff with the bank, make a new passport, buy a laptop... at least I won't be bothering at home! hehe.

At evening should the day be praised, the woman when she is cremated,
the blade when it is tested, the girl when she is married,
the ice when it is crossed, the ale when it is drunk.

In a wind one should cut wood, in fine weather row on the sea,
in darkness chat with a girl: many are the eyes of the day;
use a ship to glide along, a shield for defence,
a sword for blows, and a girl for kisses.

Today is the National Norwegian Day. The Eidsvoll Constitution (1814) is commemorated. So, just a litle hail from France to the Norwegian people at home or abroad !

This time I wont write a verse from the Poetic Edda but two verses of a national song.
Written by Ivar Aasen in the 1850's. Check the Glittertind version just above the Bergen seal in the right column.

Millom bakkar og berg ut med havet
heve nordmannen fenget sin heim,
det han sjølv heve tufterna gravet
og sett sjølv sine hus uppå deim.

Han såg ut på dei steinutte strender
det var ingen, som der hadde bygt.
'Lat oss rydja og bygja oss grender,
og so eiga me rudningen trygt'

Hi folks

It's wednesday evening and my week is quite busy and intense... first with the results of the election in France i won't comment here, then with my finals and third with the announcement of the killer line up of the Hole In The Sky.
So monday I had 3 exams... 3 hours, 2 hours, 3 hours, so 8 hours without any rest. My first exam was about Pompeius (Roman Republic), my second one was about religion in the medieval Scandinavia and my third one was a text about Jeanne d'Arc which I totally fucked. At least the two first were easier.

I had some rest yesterday so I bought tickets for the mega-expansive but great metalfest of Bergen : the Hole In The Sky, with bands such as MayheM; Deströyer 666, Immortal, Napalm Death, Anaal Nahtrakh, Testament and the mighty old Sabbat.

Today I had an exam about the Heroes in the Greek ancient history... was pretty fun and I think I did a good job. Let's go for english exam tomorrow and geography exam monday 21th, no problem for those, will be easier.

I've thought about the trip I'll do to reach Hanstholm before sailing to Bergen. I'll probably take 2 days to cross Germany and 2 days to visite some old fortresses and runestones in Denmark.
I should receive my letter of acceptance from UiB very soon...and I'll start to prepare my stuff and checkilists in a few weeks. This year will blow out some asses!

Hei folks.
I'm working for my finals (right now a course about the Swedish Erik/Sverker dynasties) and I hope you're all fine. Here in Paris the weather is pretty nice and the smell of BBQ starts flying over my neighbourhood on sundays.

I have not said a single word about it since I created this blog, but my stay in Bergen has been planned for years. I visited the city several times and last year i visited a friend who was studying there, see Flickr or Picasa (right column) for photos.
As written below y courses seem to have been accepted. So here what I'll do if everything goes as I planned it:

I met my "Erasmus coordinator" in December. A very "cool" guy. He seemed to appreciate my project. Last year I left my University because those wankers didn't want to let me go, so I moved to a crappy University in the suburbs... but I don't care 'cause now I can go to Bergen in order to study for a whole year. So I met the guy and together we built a "courses-plan". He was OK but there was a little problem: I had to respect the main lines of the courses of my home University. But in Bergen there are no courses focusing on Ancient/Modern history (mean Antiquity and post-Middle Ages periods). The professor was saying that he didn't care about, but that he was not able decide everything by himself and that we had to find a solution. He wanted me to pass minor exams in France after my norwegian ones. I was OK but he later changed is mind and said that I will have to pass the Bergen ones only.

On semester 1:
- History and Culture of Norway - 15 ECTS.
- Tradition and Culture of Norway - 15 ECTS.
- Norwegian language level 1 - 15 ECTS.

45 ECTS means a lot of work but I don't care, it will be during the winter so good times during the summer ;-)

On semester 2:
- Sami Religion - 15 ECTS
- Norwegian Language Level 1 or 2 - 15 ECTS

So now it makes 75 ECTS, and I have to get 60, so if I miss one of the exams it won't be the drama...
I don't know if I'm clear, i hope you got it...

By the way, I booked my ferry in December too, for good prices. Hanstholm/Bergen on 26/07/2007. My car, myself and another guy = 119 euros! Cheap Fjordline! Colorline is at least 245 euros and I booked that in winter. Booking a few weeks before must be a Hell, i think prices increase a lot.

they who snatched the life of Eylimi,
if the prince had a greater lust
to gain red gold than to avenge his father.'

I got some news from UiB. I just threw them an email to ask them when I'll receive some news about my letter of acceptance, here is the answer i received:

Dear Thomas Moine Thank you for your e-mail. We have received your application form. Your courses are accepted. You can expect the Letter of Acceptance to arrive in the beginning of May. Please contact me again if you have further questions. Jeepee!
